Walden Backyards at GetBackyarding
Walden Backyards is our own line of fireside tools and backyard gear — fire starters, roasting sticks, fire pokers and yard tools made for people who are outside all year.
Where they come from
Walden's fire starters come out of the northern forests of Minnesota, where being able to light a fire in the cold and the wet was once a matter of survival. Woodsmen worked out a way to get flame going first time, in snow and in rain, with nothing but natural materials.
That is still the method behind every Sure-Fire starter: the same time-tested materials, hand-made in Minnesota, with no accelerants and nothing toxic.
How they build
Every piece starts with something that annoyed us at our own fire. The Stoker Poker put bellows inside a 46-inch poker so you can wake up embers without kneeling in the smoke. The Legacy Series roasting sticks extend to keep you back from the heat and collapse into a canvas pouch afterwards. The Weed Hound pulls a taproot while you stand upright.
Simple materials, stainless steel and natural wood, tools meant to last seasons rather than a summer — and because it is our own line, we can answer any question about how it is made and how it holds up.
